چکیده

■ Abstract Obtaining a good atomistic description of diffusion dynamics in materials has been a daunting task owing to the time-scale limitations of the molecular dynamics method. We discuss promising new methods, derived from transition state theory, for accelerating molecular dynamics simulations of these infrequent-event processes. These methods, hyperdynamics, parallel replica dynamics, temperatureaccelerated dynamics, and on-the-fly kinetic Monte Carlo, can reach simulation times several orders of magnitude longer than direct molecular dynamics while retaining full atomistic detail. Most applications so far have involved surface diffusion and growth, but it is clear that these methods can address a wide range of materials problems.

Effects of different atomistic water models on the velocity profile and density number of Poiseuille flow in a nano-channel: Molecular Dynamic Simulation

In the current study, five different atomistic water models (AWMs) are implemented, In order to investigate the impact of AWMs treatment on the water velocity profile and density number. For this purpose, Molecular dynamics simulation (MDS) of Poiseuille flow in a nano-channel is conducted. Considered AWMs are SPC/E, TIP3P, TIP4P, TIP4PFQ and TIP5P. To assessment of the ability of each model in...

Planar Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Au Clusters in Pushing Process

Based on the fact the manipulation of fine nanoclusters calls for more precise modeling, the aim of this paper is to conduct an atomistic investigation for interaction analysis of particle-substrate system for pushing and positioning purposes. In the present research, 2D molecular dynamics simulations have been used to investigate such behaviors. Performing the planar simulations can provide a ...

Bridging scale methods for nanomechanics and materials

Inspired by the pioneering work of Professor T.J.R. Hughes on the variational multi-scale method, this document summarizes recent developments in multiple-scale modeling using a newly developed technique called the bridging scale. The bridging scale consists of a two-scale decomposition in which the coarse scale is simulated using continuum methods, while the fine scale is simulated using atomi...

Time scale bridging in atomistic simulation of slow dynamics: viscous relaxation and defect activation

Atomistic simulation methods are known for timescale limitations in resolving slow dynamical processes. Two well-known scenarios of slow dynamics are viscous relaxation in supercooled liquids and creep deformation in stressed solids. In both phenomena the challenge to theory and simulation is to sample the transition state pathways efficiently and follow the dynamical processes on long timescal...

A comparison of neutron scattering studies and computer simulations of polymer melts

Neutron scattering and computer simulations are powerful tools for studying structural and dynamical properties of condensed matter systems in general and of polymer melts in particular. When neutron scattering studies and quantitative atomistic molecular dynamics simulations of the same material are combined, synergy between the methods can result in exciting new insights into polymer melts no...
